KOLKATA: Washing your hands properly can save you from several infections and diseases like diarrhoea. But many people in India do not follow this simple practice.

On April 7 World Health Day a team from Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, Kolkata, will provide tips on how to wash hands in a hygienic manner and make people aware of benefits of this healthy habit. The event is being organised by Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals in association with the Times Foundation.

Do not fail to land up at the Safari Park in Southern Avenue on World Health Day, for this is the venue where the Apollo Hospital team, comprising doctors, nurses and paramedics, along with other experts, will provide hand washing tips. And, that's not all. A complimentary smart health check-up has also been lined up for the participants. Make sure to reach the venue in time to reap the most out of the event. The special drive will start at 6 in the morning to go on till 8am.

"The theme for the World Health Day this year is very important for countries like India where hand hygiene habits are not followed. The single act of proper hand-washing can reduce 50% diarrhoeal disorders and prevent many other infections. We, at Apollo Gleneagles, have very strict guidelines for hand hygiene and have a special team to ensure its implementation at all levels," said Dr Rupali Basu, chief executive officer, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, Kolkata.

Creating awareness on the benefits of proper hand washing is a regular practice at Apollo Hospitals. In fact

the hospital dedicates a full month in a calendar year for educating its patients and visitors on maintaining proper hand hygiene. This time, the hospital comes out of its premises to reach out to a bigger mass.

"We are pleased to launch this awareness drive at various locations in our city, starting from April 7," added Basu.
